Positive news from Brussels! Following the example of the Notorious Markets List, a yearly list published by the US government to name and shame platforms and websites which facilitate substantial copyright piracy and trademark counterfeiting, the European Commission is following suit. The Commission’s plan is to publish a yearly ‘Counterfeit and Piracy watch-List’, which identifies marketplaces outside the EU on which large-scale IP abuse takes place.
We believe this is a great development to create awareness and put political pressure on the most infringing platforms. Pointer Brand Protection will definitely be participating in the consultation round for the first list.
